Collaborative work in the efforts to create what is called "Jamacast Exclusives". These songs will be only allowed to be posted here until a designated release date that we all come up with. This is an attempt to create a unique production and release area and incentive for possible payed downloads etc. We could then make a Jamacast Exclusive CD and Mp3 Player release for purchase down the road. What do you all think of this idea, need input."
This Project does not include general collaborative works that any of you guys want to do with each other. Nor does it include work that you guys want to put up on other sites like the Vocalo Jamacast Collective area. All of this stuff is great and feel free to do it the way you like and are currently doing it.
What I am proposing here is for us to get our heads together right here in this forum and start discussing some creation mixes that we will start on in an effort to create what I have coined as "Jamacast Exclusives" These songs must adhere to a required critique that we all agree upon, for example the song must have vocals etc. We all agree to not release any of this collaborative work until we have all agreed so and we will only release this material here on this site or to a high bidder from a label that we all agree to. We will also release these songs as an Mp3 Player or CD purchase from the Jamatat Music Store. These songs will take a bit longer to create but they have to meet certain requirements at the end of it's creation process. In the beginning I stress full creativity holding back nothing but at the polish side these songs have to be critiqued a bit more thoroughly. These songs will represent what we all feel collectively as the best of Jamacast.
Don't hold anything back in here guys this is the "Jamacast Project II Battle grounds". First lets talk about it some, then, LETS MAKE SOME MUSIC!!!

Cool Idea count me in ,me and Idisidi did a song together this last weekend . I dont know if he has uploaded here yet , but it was pretty cool. He did some real interesting vocals on it (Set the Pace ) let me know if he didnt upload it , and i'll do it !
i'm down with it, actually i uploaded a project lol ...
but anyway .. don't know if someone here is interested in an electro/techno collab :(
you can check my project under the "cool lab" section and what i would ask are some vocals since it's something required
i am open to other projects too , but i don't know how to play guitar , bass , anything, do not know rock , pop , and such :)
Hmm, yes, sounds very interesting, especially this agreement rule before it comes to any release. Usually the singer or guitarist of a band enters session room, shouting "guys, I gotta new song!". He explains structure, chords and what everyone else has to do, and after a while they all found their part and say 'amen'. The only discussion might be about guitar solo length (32 bars as usual or 48 bars to better demonstrate that brandnew psychodelic distortion effect) and convincing the bass man that no bass solo (4 bars) is needed.
In our case this process is likely more difficult, because there's no special hierarchy, but it's nicely challenging though. I assume we'll have some primordial seeds (e.g. style, theme, lyrics) serving as inspiration and each member brainstorms and tells his ideas about how this concept could be interpreted and what could be done to sculpture a song of it.
Must admit I'm loving the group dynamics behind. Who is eager to see his samples embedded? Who draws back easily when majority doubts? How is everybody accepting and adapting new or uncommon suggestions? How can different strategies of music development be melted to result in a successful (art)work?
Anyway, I'm appreciating such kind of projects meaning worthwhile experiences for all of us.
Jamsys is close to being ready to put up on the site. This is where we will all meet and discuss the inner working ideas, gripes, twists, whatever about the current Project II Exclusive Tracks that we are currently working on at that moment. When we are in this Jamsys area it will be a private meeting for us collaborators to work. It will be like us all sitting down and discussing pre recording ideas and work like one would in a studio.
I think we will use this post as a meeting board to check for times of meeting at Jamsys and to outline the general progress of step toward a project. like
(Example)
Jamsys Meeting @ 9:00am CST 03/15/08
Topic - Name and Theme for Track #1
(Example)
New Rough @ Idisidi's Lab folder for prj II track #1
(Example)
Jamsys Meeting @ 11:00am CST 03/12/08
Topic - Collab Role Assignments for Track #1 (who does what)
All of the above are examples only. We will all become used to how it all works as we get going. All post from this point forward on this post hopefully will be geared on this mechanism. If you have some more ides on this please share.
A better Idea except for progress announcements would be to have a live calender in the Jamsys system itself for us to refer back to for scheduled events for the Collab.

The Jamsys Meeting area for the Jamacast Collective Project II is more or less ready for real time action. Keep an eye on the bulletin board posted on the site for meeting times and topics. The first meeting will be posted by myself or Asaguare and we will discuss the general direction for Project marketing theme and track styling. We will discuss how to go about time lines for WIP and file hierarchy management, where they go how they are named etc. We will also assign roles for everybody such as who is in charge of what. This is all trial and error guys so if it doesn't work out right the first few times, so what lets just make it happen, right.

Like I said in the above post, "if it doesn't work out right the first few times, so what, lets just make it happen"
Lets just put some meetings up on the spur of the moment, whenever you feel like it announce it, if somebody comes great if not, don't sweat it, just do it again and again. For example announce something like "Hey guys I will be in Jamsys on some date at whatever time to get some feedback on my track piece etc, lets meet. When ever we put some pieces of songs in the Collab Files area these are all WIP's so they all need work. We can put something together with no restrictions, just be yourself. If we come up with 10 different versions of one WIP we can just all vote later which one will be on the CD.
Should the Project II CD be for a particular cause or just try to promote it for ourselves and this site. what do you think?
I'm not sure if Asa has Jamsys set up where anyone who is a premium member on Jamcast can call to meet there? I think maybe this might have to be monitored via moderator and then posted to our site for security reasons maybe?

Since nobody (apart from IGTB) seems to have any inspirations what to do with Todd's theme, I started to work out some ideas about it. So far I did the following:
1. Analysis: Basics. It's in key G/Em, 140 BPM, built on repetitions of a 4-bar-pattern. In detail such a pattern consists of 2 bars in Em and 2 bars in Am (last 2 beats of second part can be seen as B7 alternatively for a better refeed to Em).
There's 3 progressing instrumental versions of the pattern: the first one is melody only, the second one is augmented with a simple bass line and hihat, the third one is augmented again with a deep trance synth bass line and kick/snare.
2. Analysis: Clip extraction from mp3. The 3 patterns mentioned above are available as WAV files, stored in the Collab File area in folder [Asaguare].
3. Analysis: Melody. Noted the melody as MIDI, a corresponding file (Todd.mid) has also been stored in the Collab File area in folder [Asaguare]. Knowing the specific melody notes might come handy if additional elements such as parallel melody lines or vocals have to be created/recorded.
4. Idea: Structural elements. The existing pattern could serve as verse-part. A bridge-part is needed to seperate different verse-parts.
5. Idea: Bridge/refrain. Found a nice clip of a little girl's laughing. Her laughter happens to consist of mainly 2 pitches, notes F and G, accent on G, which matches our key. Furthermore we could introduce several new chords to underlay the laughter and make this bridge/refrain sound different from the verse-part.
My idea is: G, Eb, C, F7 - two bars each.
Created a short demo of how the bridge (as mentioned above) basically would sound.
See Todd_Laughter.mp3 in Collab File area, folder [Asaguare]...
You may think this is too infantile, but I like it though. Anyway it'd be a nice opener on a CD, wouldn't it?
I listened to your Todd_Laughter clip, haha very creative. This one is going to be interesting to see how it turns out. I guess the reason I tried messing with this particular tune is because this kind of music is very difficult for me to grasp onto creatively. I thought it would be a good challenge, totally out of my comfort zone here on this one. I too think the only way to compliment it or mess it up probably is to integrate some sound FX or vocal FX like you are trying to do. So far I like what you have chosen to integrate very unique as always with Asa, way to go we are off again to a start maybe. This way even Idisidi can play without feeling totally obligated on a time bases factor. This will give him and everybody more time to just inspire at their own pace and all.

ok .. about the analysis xD i don't understand nothing from there .. but good thing :P
and the laughter -> kinda loud and annoying at some time
for ideas and such i got loads of little things i did ... i'll upload some when i have time
OK for some reason I just can't get to grips on this 140 BPM version so I will probably be working on my slower 120 BPM version. The reason for this is I am hung up with a vocal part that keeps popping up in my head. I am working on a ghost theme for the lyrics also. Strange I know but it just keeps ending up this way. Every time I try to work on it I keep going back to my original idea. This is why I think it is important for all of us to just do our own thing with these WIPS and just use ideas and work from other people to inspire. For example I am using the laughter part as an intro to my WIP version. If it sucks I will hear about it when it's done and then maybe someone will take it to another angle who knows. I am all about experimenting with music, I'm sure we all are. Patterns that are not intentional but patterns still the same. Just keep it close from the heart that is true. Who knows though where this WIP will end up I might even replace it all with a guitar riff haha and just use the fabric of it's essence.
At least this is a good start with this WIP. It's enough to get a groove on!!! Now this is not to say that we won't be working on other things and song ideas. We might even end up creating track three before we even finish track one. I really don't care as long as we are all working on the Project and having fun with it. Speaking of another track, have you listened to DJskyhawks Save the World tune. We could use this as track two. I am thinking of ocillating between an octave change back and forth on his intro bass part with that one, Just a thought.

Last time I forgot to upload the source file of the girl's laughter.
Now it can be found in Collab File area, folder [Asaguare]. Uploaded 2 versions (140/160 bpm) in OGG format:
- Gina laugh G_FFFFFG 2+5b140.ogg
- Gina laugh G_FFFFFG 2+5b160.ogg
The logical size is written as 2+5b, which means 7 beats in total (2 pre-beats and 5 beats). This is interesting for positioning the clip in a beat-based sequencer grid - in our case it's recommended to correlate clip-beat 3 with bar-beat 1, like so:
