Apologies !!!

IGTB's picture

I wanted to take the time to apologize to all members for the apparent slow down on various aspects of this site including but not limited to contests. I do intend to put up some more contests in the future and hopefully make this site even a bit funner by doing some "WIP" contests and off site contests etc. The reason for my slow downs or delays are more to do with some personal aspects of my life that are taking a large amount of my time and energy for the moment. On top of these personal aspects, I am also waiting for some personal medical issues to be resolved and I am limited to what I can do physically and my energy levels have just been drained as of lately. My medical condition is not life threatening or anything, just a back injury, but it makes it very difficult at times to concentrate and motivate due to the pain levels and discomfort I am experiencing. I am one of those kind of people who hates to even take an aspirin for pain yet here I am taking a major pain med for this one. Don't want anybody feeling sorry for me, my problems are trivial probably in comparison to some of the people in the world's problems I'm sure. I just wanted you all to know the reasons for the slow down on some of the things I have been promising to do here on this site.

When I first put up this site I ran aggressive contests and it seemed most everyone participated here with those contests, so rest assured I will be bringing them back. I had almost lined up Altec Lansing for a sponsor on what would have been a great summer contest but that fell through after they let me down on it. Thats OK maybe someone from Bose is reading posts from this site, one never knows! We are seeing approx 600-800 unique visitors monthly on this site so when you add up the potential returning visitors with the number of page hits etc. I am estimating somewhere between 1000 to 3000 people are viewing this site within a month period. On July 4th, 5th and 6th we had about 150 unique visitors each of those days alone. So when it comes to holidays everybody needs to become more active on this site it seems. I think they may have been expecting something on those days? I think we are doing the right thing here overall.

I am also disheartened a bit from the lack of participation with some users who have been given a premium account for free but yet never contribute to the cause here on this site. This site is about musicians helping other musicians and if you are a member here I would hope that you will participate and contribute towards the drive with this ambition. For example I have put up a musician of the month feature that puts you the musician right smack on the top middle of prime site real estate for 30 days or so and yet some of these premium users haven't logged into this site for more than two months not even to post a simple blog or a hows it going etc. I had a system in place that deleted such users for not logging into the system but I thought I would just allow users to be here to increase the presence of user base. What good is a useless user base though right?

Since the site has began I have chatted with only 4 users on the Jamacast Chat lounge?
All the non Premium users still have the ability to post their widgets in the Jamacast Widgetry post which is still viewed many times and is syndicated on RSS feeds as well as the other parts of the main feed are. Yet none of these users have even posted their Widgets. If anyone is having problems with basic features of the site such as the Widget thing just email me or PM me I will gladly help you out with that.

Marketing 101 or Propagation or being seen or getting heard, all of these are basically the same overall meaning when it comes to exposure. I keep saying this time and again, exposure is key here. Why would anyone join a site that does not expose your music and better yet if you have the tools at your disposal to expose your own music why on earth would you not motivate to do so? Say something about yourself, post a blog, don't just create an account and do nothing!!! You must be active when it comes to self promotion and trying to get yourself exposure. You never know who may be visiting our site, don't let yourself down by doing nothing.

When life and music collide

Sometimes life just gets in the way of the music, or whatever creative endeavor we choose to pursue. Which is unfortunate though understandable. Probably many Jamacast users would love to devote more time to their music but find the realities of life at odds with this desire. I find myself the most creative later at night, however this does not conduct itself to being able to wake up on time and make it to work. Thus the dilemma: should I put a song away for the night and hope to recapture the moment tomorrow or keep going and hope my alarm is enough to wake me up in the morning - which it usually isn't. So I've had to choose the former for now. The results are a bunch of partial songs, ideas, riffs, or whatever.

I've had health issues in the past which interrupted my musical ambitions for a good while. And although those issues are long past, it's only been within the last 10-11 months that I've begun to redevelop my interest in making music after an almost ten year gap. I'm just now beginning to look into the local music scene to see what's going on. There are many good bands and musicians here in Chattanooga, but I am admittedly a bit intimidated about reintroducing myself to the community at large. I've gone as far as adding a bunch of local bands to my "favorites" on my Necromanos MySpace page, but haven't yet made any friend requests.

Jamacast has been great for some feedback about the music I've been making. I'm still surprised, and of course pleased, when someone comments favorably about one of my songs. And even if someone dislikes a song, at least somebody other than myself listened to it!

I enjoy this site. Lotsa groovy musicians here. :o)

Rock on!

Life and music

Similar things on my side. After having paused making music for about 10 yrs (all my music mates had been moving away to other towns), I accidentally stumbled upon André Michelle while investigating Flash audio stuff online. This way I came to Splicemusic, where André did some important and amazing work on their sequencer. Discovering Splice was like turning a key and opening a door to an interesting area where sonic art could be created, published and shared. Although most of the real good musicians were already inactive on Splice at this time, I still found some ambitioned mates (like Of_The_Ego, IGTB, Fartlord, Fenix or Necromanos, to mention a few) who inspired and motivated me. Guess, this was the main reason for re-recording my old stuff and also composing new tunes.

Well, widgets on Jamacast... since I'm no commercial musician, my interest in being spread isn't that strong. Actually I'm pretty satisfied with this handful of contacts and fans, haha.
