Howdy Jamacasters! I thought I'd let y'all in on what I'm working on... I'm doing a cover of "Chase" by Georgio Moroder to get some practice on the recording/mixing process. It's a reasonably easy song to play, but lends itself to trying to figure out some production techniques because of the arrangement of the song. So I'm trying to incorporate many different ways of doing things to come out with the best track I can. I've done about a minute of the song so far, and it's about 8:30 altogether, if I do the whole song. Of course, I'm not going to upload it to Jamacast, but I'll let y'all know when it's done and provide a link on my own site for any that want to hear it. For now, if you'd like to hear that first minute, here is a temporary link:

This link will only be available for a few days. But if you have a listen, let me know what you think. At this point it doesn't stray too much from the original except for some of the instrumentation, but I have some ideas... :o)

influence
Yeah somehow we were all probably influenced by this stuff at some earlier point in our lives. Those of us who are into Tran/techno, that is. I was mainly playing Progressive music back in the 70's and 80's but every now and then I would put on a Donna Summers song and others who had this style merged within their music. Check out this link if you haven't already ------or this one. They're both pretty good, and there are more like it as well.
Groove On!!!
G.Moroder
I remember this guy - he threw out some nice and fresh pop tunes, although I didn't listen his songs that much.
Anyway, it's a good theme to analyze and remix. Love its stretched movement and development, this is kinda chilling.
Under the influence
"Chase" is one of my favorite songs from early electronica. It came out around 1978, featured in the movie Midnight Express. I thought it was the coolest song after hearing it in the movie. I hadn't heard it in a while, and stumbled across it while looking up '70's electronica. The way the song is set up lends itself quite well to developing an updated version. The main hook/bassline is possibly from an early hardware analog sequencer triggering a Moog of some sort. Which is easy to recreate and update using a modern sequencer and a moog style soft synth. (Reaper sequencer, and Triangle II soft synth from Cakewalk). For the flanged pad and the lead parts (when I get to them) I'm playing/recording them "live" on my Korg x50. I may have to break out my old analog synth and do some parts as well. It even has trigger inputs for an analog sequencer, too bad I don't have one of those! I think I have some interesting ideas about how I want to update the track. There are plenty of updated versions I came across, on YouTube for example. Those cover versions go from not varying much from the original to some techno, house, DnB, etc. versions that sound from good to rediculous. I'm trying to achieve a happy blend between the original track and a modernized version. We'll just see how it goes as I develop it further.
