Music Promotion tips

IGTB's picture

Sometimes we like to think in terms of just what the material itself is about and sometimes forget to think of our work in terms of promotional design. Here are some tips to drive more people to the site as well as to your individual work.:

* Remember to use creative titles for your posts. Also you can increase the weight of your posts on search engines to some degree by using key word stuffing. Example, lets say your song is about a man who is crazy about vanilla ice cream. Well your title could be like this. (Ice cream)actual name of song title here(Ice cream)author here(Ice Cream). Now these techniques are not full proof and as a matter of fact they can sometimes go the opposite way for you. These techniques will rank your post higher on Google more than likely though. Sometimes it is better to use a more narrow phrase such as Ice cream man or strange ice cream man for a higher and more direct focus. Either way just doing this is bound to help to some degree with higher ranking for your music on search engines, just be creative with it.

* Another thing I would encourage all of you to do is to use those little icon links underneath the posts, such as the Facebook, Digg, and Yahoo links. These little guys allow you to share your content with these other powerful online, community services to spread your awesome talent to the rest of the world, or at least your other fans and friends.

* Use eye candy with your posts too, these are the things that people like to see while they are listening to your tunes. Make them interesting, and maybe even make them abstract. This also applies to your posts. I know it is cool to not talk a lot, but it is also good to describe and illustrate your piece of work, even if it is a WIP. Try to keep your illustrative descriptions to around 150 - 250 words, or one or two paragraphs. Try not to detract from the actual work itself though, this can be a negative consequence if you do. So use good judgment and balance with your descriptions

* If you really want to promote your work, then do exactly that. Go out and become members to other sites. Don't just go to the usual ones, do a Google search and find some sites of interest and work them to your advantage. Talk up the site or your music, let them hear a sample of your work. Go to some of your favorite audio tool sites and join their forums to talk up their product and then let them hear some of your work using their tools. This is not considered spam if you do it with taste and honesty.

I have done all of these things in promoting this site and every time I get serious about it, I see a big surge in visitors to this site. It really does work, you just got to make it work by working it. As an example I just did a Facebook paste of one of Asagures songs to my Facebook account for others there to listen to, and maybe they too will share it even further.

Groove On!!!
